Who can apply
Florida WIC serves people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, women who have recently been pregnant, infants and children under 5. The household must have a low or moderate income, at least one nutrition risk, and live in Florida.
- Income: at or below the Florida WIC income limits, or currently receiving Medicaid, temporary cash assistance (TCA) or food assistance.
- Nutrition risk: the state gives examples such as underweight, overweight, low birth weight, low hemoglobin or hematocrit, prematurity or a chronic disease. WIC staff check this at the visit.
- Florida address: you apply in the county where you live.
Not sure? The USDA's WIC eligibility tool asks a few short questions.
The steps
- Find your county WIC office. Search by ZIP code or open the county list.
- Call to schedule a certification appointment. Use the number in the county phone list. Say who is applying (for example, you and a baby on the way).
- Gather your papers. Proof of identity, Florida address and household income for each applicant, or proof of Medicaid, TCA or food assistance. Full documents checklist
- Go to the appointment. Bring the people applying unless WIC tells you otherwise, and ask whether the visit is in person or by phone.
- Start using your benefits. If approved, you get a WIC EBT card and a shopping list. See approved foods
At the certification visit
Florida WIC says that at this visit your household income and the medical and nutrition status of each applicant are reviewed. That usually means questions about health and eating habits and measurements the clinic or your doctor provides.
Pregnant applicants: each unborn baby counts as one extra person in the household size, which raises the income limit. WIC during pregnancy
What you can do online
Before you apply, you can pre-check eligibility with the USDA tool. After you are enrolled, the Florida WIC app lets you view appointments and benefits, find clinics and stores, scan foods and upload and sign WIC documents. You register with your WIC family ID number or WIC EBT card.
