Florida WIC eligibility: where to start

Understand who can apply, how income is reviewed and why the clinic makes the final eligibility decision.

By Agustín Mendez · official sources reviewed November 2, 2026

Who the program serves

Florida WIC serves eligible pregnant, breastfeeding and recently pregnant women, infants and children younger than five. Applicants must live in Florida, meet income rules and have a nutrition risk assessed by the program. Parents, foster parents and other caregivers can ask about applying for children in their care.

Postpartum women can be served for up to six months after the end of the pregnancy, and breastfeeding mothers can receive food benefits until the baby turns 1. Dads, grandparents, foster parents and anyone raising a child under 5 can apply for the child.

Check the current income table

The state publishes a table by household size and pay frequency. Use gross income, before deductions, and the column for how often you are paid. The state table reviewed for this guide was revised June 26, 2026; amounts can change. Read the official current income limits rather than relying on an older county handout.

For a pregnant applicant, Florida counts each unborn baby as an additional household member. Ask the local office how to count the household when your living or financial arrangements are unusual.

If you receive other benefits

Current Medicaid, Temporary Cash Assistance or food assistance participation can establish income eligibility. Other WIC requirements still apply. You do not have to receive one of these programs to qualify, and having a job is not by itself a reason you cannot apply.

Nutrition assessment and the next step

A WIC professional reviews the relevant health and nutrition information. This website cannot assess nutrition risk or issue an eligibility decision. Book a certification appointment and ask which health records or measurements to provide. Bring the required documents so the team can review your situation.

Income reference by household size

Try the income calculator. Use the column that matches the pay interval. Twice a month and every two weeks are different schedules. Do not add the columns together. For more than eight household members, mixed pay schedules or uncertain household composition, ask WIC how it will review your records. Check the state table for updates.

This is a reference, not an approval calculation. A figure below a listed amount does not complete the residence, participant-category and nutrition assessment requirements. If you receive qualifying assistance, ask about that income-documentation route before gathering pay records unnecessarily.

Common questions

Does an online screening approve WIC?

No. A screening can help you decide whether to apply, but the official WIC team completes certification and determines eligibility.

Can a working household apply?

Yes. Employment alone does not determine eligibility. The program considers household income, family circumstances and the other WIC criteria.
